As I was walking the dogs one late afternoon I detected the smell of a charcoal grill being used in our neighborhood. In the day of gas grills this smell is unique but one that instantly reminded me of the charcoal grill my father used during those carefree days of summer time.
As I savored the memories of family, fun, friends and lazy summer days, I immediately thought of the thousands of children across our country who do not enjoy that same carefree abandoned of summertime common to my childhood. They do not have a place of safety and care. These children are in need of a family for a time of protection and healing.
As you and your family, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews enjoy the last few days of summertime allow yourself to see these children in need of love and care.
We can help make a difference for children who need safe and loving homes across our communities. We have an increasing number of churches and volunteers stepping into a lifestyle of serving vulnerable children and families.
Over the summer months we are excited to be working with several new churches who are launching their own foster care ministries. We look forward to seeing God use them to be the hands and feet of Jesus to vulnerable children and families in foster care right in their own communities.
What will you do to help reclaim the carefree, playful essence of childhood for children from hard places? What will your next step be?
