Are you made for home?

Are you made for home?

Sherry Bouquet October 06, 2022

As I entered the venue a tall young man strode in my direction. With a broad grin he exclaimed, "Do you know how I am?" I recognized him immediately and was delighted to reconnect with a young man I first met as I served on a care team five years prior. Every week I had the privilege of picking up he and his siblings to join me at church on Sundays and Wednesday night youth programs.

A few days later, on Sunday, he made a visit to church. Appropriately, it was our annual Homecoming Sunday. This young man enjoyed connecting with his mentors and youth pastor of days gone by. Each was thrilled to learn how he had grown up, become a stellar student, been established in a home and was now making plans for his future. He leaned over to me during the service and whispered, "Homecoming Sunday...what a good day for me to come to this church. It feels like coming home."

I experienced two monumental lessons that week. One, serving on that care team to help a family foster can deliver blessings after several years have elapsed. Second, we are all made for home, a place to have roots, to be welcome and to have family. Our hearts yearn to belong and be loved.

Celebrate with us on October 20th, 2022 as we recognize Every Kid Deserves a HOME!  Your attendance to our one hour community event makes a statement to others that children in foster care deserve a safe loving home.

We will hear encouragement and motivation from veteran foster/adoptive dad of 6 children, Ryan North. He is a TBRI Practitioner, parent coach and ministry leader of One Big Happy Home. Help us honor our foster, kinship and adoptive families who work on the front lines opening up their homes for children in need.
